How we met
Cue 2014’s annual White Elephant Christmas party hosted by our two best friends and Jeremy. We said hello, played pictionary, and listened to electronic Christmas music. We went our separate ways, then met at the next years Christmas Event. Then again at the next.
In 2017, we met outside of the White Elephant parties at a wedding. We danced and started conversations about tiny houses, paddle boarding, and hot yoga. That summer turned into early mornings in yoga studios and weekends on the lake; as summer came to a close our adventures did not.
We’ve adventured hundreds of miles on our tandem bike, through beautiful hikes in the PNW, and most recently through National Parks as part of our honeymoon road trip.
The Proposal
In search of warmer days, we ventured to Cancun, Mexico for New Years 2022. We spent days on the beach and strolled through new cityscapes.
Jeremy knew this would be a trip of a life time, but Carla was completely oblivious of Jeremy’s plan.
As usual, we spent our evening listening to the waves crash along the shoreline. We were not alone on the beachfront as it was New Years and there was much to celebrate. As the excitement of New Years 2022 edged closer, so did Jeremy’s anticipation. We joined in the festivities as we heard the count down of final seconds of 2021. Fireworks filled the sky from every direction and cheers echoed from our surrounding neighbors.
As the initial excitement of New Years passed, Carla turned around to see Jeremy on one knee with a ring in hand.
To say Carla was shocked is an understatement. Fireworks continued to ring in the air as she excitedly said, “yes”.

The Ceremony
Once stateside, we discussed what our wedding would look like. We agreed that a traditional wedding did not appeal to us and we wanted something unique. Jeremy jokingly suggested getting married in a hot air balloon and the idea took off. We decided to fly over the tulip fields in Mt. Vernon, WA on April 03, 2022 with our parents and our best friends.
PNW springs consist of rain and wind; this particular day was no different. A storm front was nearing and it was not safe to fly in a hot air balloon. We found this out 24 hours before our big day so we scrambled for a back-up plan.
We called Christianson’s Nursery, who was gracious enough to allow us access after their regular hours so we could experience a private ceremony. Once we arrived at the venue, our friends and family brought plants around us and created an aisle for us to walk down.
We were surround by the most important people in our lives. While our vision of a hot air balloon was not in the cards for us, we fully believe that our day turned out exactly as it was meant to be.
